As you already know, we Ibercivis are trying to dinamize science through an active collaboration from everywhere you were. Our challenge is to achieve the joint between scientists and citizenship.
During the last months we have developed an application for taking part in science by the reconnaissance of images, something that has the aim of advance in the study of cells death process, named apoptosis, which is part of illnesses like the cancer.
The way to participate is simple. You can visualize the images taken by the inverted fluorescence microscope from several cellular cultures. After that some simple questions -for instance: Is the cell rounded or elongated?, Is the core of the cell fragmented? help the observer to determine the status of the cells and to know what is happening whitin every culture. Ultimately the observer is giving a valuable help to the researchers in their study of the effectiveness of the medicals they are applying.
For their part volunteers produce a great amount of data, which would be very difficult to obtain without their participation. So, instead of researches should analyze all the videos taken from the cultures, this videos are divided in simple images and time series and shared between citizenship.
This application has been developed whitin the frame of the Socientize project, the European project of citizen science that keeps on working out experiments needed of the support and participation of thousand of people.
This program is opened to all publics, who can access to it through these links:
We recommend to you the viewing of a very short documentary which illustrates the idea of Citizen Science.
As many as we be we shall do more contributions to the Citizen Science!!!
