Sónar 12.13.14 Junio 2014
Sónar is the International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art taking place in Barcelona during three days every June.
A collective musical experiment
BIFI is the Institute for Biocomputation and Complex Physics Systems from the University of Zaragoza, that leads several citizen science projects and initiatives, including the Ibercivis Foundation and Socientize project.
For the researchers of BIFI, one of the challenges to face in the information age is to understand the collective intelligence and the under lying mechanisms that occur when a big number of people engage and solve problems together. Therefore, at MarketLab they will present Crowd-tivity, a participatory research experiment promoted by the University of Zaragoza with the musician R de Rumba and Miguel Angel Mercadal, that will investigate and encourage Sónar+D attendees to compose jointly-owned songs collecting new data about networked creativity.
During Sónar+D, the public will be able to create music patterns with the set of audio samples provided in a sequencer and to see what others are creating. Also they will be able to check their alternatives and incorporate best parts into your piece with drag and drop. No musical background is needed. The researcher expect that after a short period of thought full inception, the best tunes will spread in the network evolving with time. After three days of accumulated phenomena from people with heterogeneous backgrounds, there will be a good number of mixes and interactions to analyze. R de Rumba and Miguel Mercadal will play the popular ones on a live show.
