WHY DO WE DO CITIZEN SCIENCE?
SURVEY TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR MOTIVATIONS
Knowing the motivations of the participants in collaborative projects is essential for the good development of them. This project of Ibercivis Foundation seeks to know the motivations of the participants (users / managers / researchers / politicians / educators / communicators) in citizen science, both in Ibercivis projects and with other entities, through surveys and interviews.
It also seeks to promote reflection on the various implications (scientific, educational, social, ethical and political) of participation in citizen science, as well as communication among all involved groups and people. The ultimate goal is to achieve better citizen science practices that lead to the best scientific results along with the benefit of all participants.
Any person who has participated in any citizen science project, whether or not they are Ibercivis projects.
Current phase of the project
The second part of the survey is launched in the second half of July 2018. This includes questions for people who promote citizen science – from research, management, education and communication – and who are not directly involved in the projects as users.
First phase of the project
The first phase of the project was carried out in the first half of May 2018. The target groups in this first phase were project participants (called citizen scientists, users, volunteers, etc.) mainly at national level.
Thanks to the responses of the survey participants – including their comments and suggestions in the survey itself or through e-mails – it has been possible to refine the formulation of the new questionnaire. Our particular thanks to these collaborators.
The preliminary results were presented by Ibercivis at the II International Conference of the European Citizen Science Association (Geneva, June 3-5 2018)
Thank you again for your collaboration
